ABSTRACT
This paper presents design of a gain-flattened amplifier that covers an ultra-wide band including the well known optical S, C, and L bands. The amplifier has a split-band architecture, which amplifies the S, C, and L band signals in separate paths and then recombines the amplified signals for the output. We've used Erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) for the C band and L band amplification and used for a multi-pump fiber Raman Amplifier (FRA) for S band amplification. For the L band and C band EDFA design, cascade configurations that a gain flattening filter is inserted between the erbium doped fibers in order to suppress amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). The overall design was analyzed for ultra wide bandwidth and minimum ripple factor. Consequently, a gain of approximate to 24 dB, a maximum ripple factor of 0.3 dB, and total bandwidth of 120 nm are achieved.
