Ernst & Young hangs up on graduate phone interviews

November 2007
People Management;1/11/2007, Vol. 13 Issue 22, p13
The article reports on the decision of Ernst & Young to stop conducting telephone interviews for graduate recruits because too many weak candidates were getting through to assessment centres. The company used first-stage telephone interviews for its 2007 intake but has decided to return to a face-to-face method for the forthcoming year. According to Stephen Isherwood, head of graduate recruitment, telephone interviews were introduced to fit in with students' pressurised schedules and to respond to a competitive market.
