ABSTRACT
The article reports on the reaction of Duncan Fisher, chief executive of Fathers Direct, to proposed legislation on paternity leave in Great Britain. Speaking at a Working Families conference in October 2007, Fisher argued that the government proposal on paternity leave will not improve equality and will instead simply reinforce gender stereotypes. If it is made law, the relevant section of the Work and Families Act 2006 will allow fathers to take up to 26 weeks' paternity leave if the mother returns to work early.
