ABSTRACT
The article reports on the parents' reaction to the career choices of their daughters in first-generation immigrant families. The sacrifices made by the parents to provide a better life for their children and the pressures on them to choose careers offering financial stability justifying their sacrifices are considered. The parents' lack of opportunity in comparison with their daughters are explored. The daughters' challenges to merge personal fulfillment with family obligation are discussed.
