ABSTRACT
The article discusses various issues related to research and forecasting in the information technology (IT) industry in the U.S. According to Neil Rickard, research vice president at Gartner, unlike client computing, where significant footprint reduction can arise from simply turning it off, green computing needs to be always on regardless of its utilization to have an efficient response. Also, the research company defines environmental footprint as the combination of the energy consumed by the equipment, the environmental impact of its production and the impact of its disposal. 2008 was predicted to have a stronger authentication which combines with better validation that would make significant progress.
