Economist plans social site for global readership

The article reveals the plan of "The Economist" to create a social network following the decision to invest in its site and socialise its content. The move into social networking comes as the magazine launches its first online video. Ben Edwards, publishing director of Economist.com, said the publication is determined the site should be used to engage with readership. He said they want the site to host a global conversation among an influential group of people. He added that it will include connections, social networking and profiles.
