ABSTRACT
The article reports on the $43 million data center consolidation and virtualization project of the State of Oregon. According to the author, the project which began on 2005, is expected to let the state save about $10 million to $12 million per year. The author adds that the project will unite 11 state agency data centers and will end in June 2009. Mark Reyer, administrator of the Oregon State Data Center (SDC), states that the consolidation of data centers will let them reduce their costs and will improve quality. Furthermore, the project has 1,520 servers, 425TB of SAN storage and two 1,200 MIPS mainframes. Other information related to the project are also mentioned.
