ABSTRACT
This article presents information on the annual Christmas Bird Count being held in New York during December. The Christmas count began in 1900 as a protest against an annual holiday bird shoot. This event was organized by ornithologist Frank M. Chapman of the American Museum of Natural History. Participants are challenged to count individual birds of every species within a 15-mile diameter circle.
