ABSTRACT
The article discusses the use of Carrier Ethernet technology, a high speed Ethernet for metro area networks, by multiple system operators in extending their services into the commercial markets in the U.S. It was stated that through the technology, cable operators can compete against telecommunication companies in delivering business services. The technology provides flexible standardized carrier-class services such as point-to-point E-Line services and multipoint E-LAN services.
