ABSTRACT
The article explores the difficulties encountered by a college farm on the Fylde plain in England and how the farm achieved success despite them. On the farm, 265 hectares is either grazed or mown grass. The farm has managed to increase its grey partridge population from just seven birds five years ago, to a respectable 33 at the last count, and the brown hare are more than 60. Of great value to the farm in line with high cereal prices is the 55 hectares of maize. Students have discovered that pheasants prefer to roost on a straw bale.
