This article reports on the launch of a new strobilurin plus triazole fungicide by Bayer CropScience which is aimed at combating both septoria and rusts. Firefly contained a lower amount of the strobilurin fungicide, fluoxastrobin, in combination with azole fungicide, prothioconazole, than sister product Fandango, said the firm's Alison Daniels. Less strobilurin was required to control wheat rust diseases effectively than barley diseases, such as rhynchosporium, net blotch and ramularia, her colleague Nigel Godley reckoned.
