ABSTRACT
The article discusses the decreasing number of lumber mills and mill employees from 2002 to 2006 in the Western U.S. due to crisis in the housing industry. It was stated that the nationwide economic crisis in the residential construction industry has resulted to the drop of prices of timber by as much as 30 percent. The crisis has forced timber mills to close down or laid off hundreds of employees. In addition, two charts which depicts the decline on the number of mill employees in the region and the difference between the number of closing and new lumber mills are presented.
