ABSTRACT
The article reports on the plans of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History to send the possessions of Indian Chief Sitting Bull to his closest living relatives. The National Museum of the American Indian Act required that the possessions be returned. The director of the museum's Repatriation Office, Bill Billeck discovered that Sitting Bull's closest living relatives were Ernie LaPointe of Lead, South Dakota and his three sisters, and plans to ship the possessions, which consist of Sitting Bull's hair and leggings, to them. The shooting of Sitting Bull is discussed.
