ABSTRACT
The article provides a short introduction to the variety of mass analyser configurations and recent developments of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) instrumentation. It also tackles three key topics of LC-mass spectrometry (MS)/MS--matrix effects, multi-analyte methods and confirmatory analysis. Triple quadrupole instruments (QqQ), ion traps (IT), quadrupole-time-of-flight (Qq-TOF)-and QTrap instruments are the most frequently used tandem mass spectrometers for the determination of trace contaminants and residues.
