The article discusses how novel fluorescence microscopy methods allowed researchers to view the nanoworld. It provides a description of vibrational spectroscopies capable of nanometer-scale spatial resolutioin and then concludes by examining the performance of mass spectrometry in this field. It also offers a summary of the current capabilities of the nano-analytical methods used.
