The article examines whether orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) would qualify as a disruptive technology. OFDM is a generic term that describes a channel structure, the basic means by which information is conveyed on a radio signal. It is stated that the subcarriers in an OFDM channel can be modulated in different ways, such as the binary phase shift keying. The author assumes that channel quality for fixed service will be relatively good, a situation that favors OFDM that can take advantage with very high data rates.
