ABSTRACT
The article reports that financial services company Standard Life Assurance Co. is using image-recognition software to automate the distribution of paper-based mail, allowing it to handle higher volumes at faster speeds. The software called, EMC's Captiva Inputaccel, automatically decides where to send documents after they have been electronically scanned. The mail-handling centre in Edinburgh processes more than one million items of post a year. The firm scans them using Kodac scanners and distributes them using a workflow system, supplied by the company DST.
