ABSTRACT
The article discusses the advantages of incorporating sensor technology, such as accelerometer, to smartphones. This technology helps make smartphone operations easier and more convenient. In addition, it can also make the device aware of where it is going, how fast it is going and how far has gone. Accelerometers can function as a motion recognition system by distinguishing various combinations such as tilt, direction, velocity, shock, vibration and freefall. Combining this with advanced digital communications, it would make the cell phone a safety device that can not only help detect when something is physically wrong with the user but can also contact the needed emergency services and guide them to the user's location.
