The article discusses the trends in alternating-current (AC) drives that are used in several applications. Original-equipment manufacturers are demanding simplicity in the setup and controls of AC drives. Drives have become compact, easier to use, and cheaper. Although smaller, drives have been developed with expanding functionality because of innovative software. Moreover, by installing application specific drives, end users can further reduce cost.
