ABSTRACT
The article discusses the changes made to the air conditioning system of Alta condominium in Washington, D.C. Developer PN Hoffman Inc. initially did not design the condominium for an environment friendly air conditioning system. However, it is reported that in the middle of construction, they decided to change the air conditioning equipment from an ozone depleting R-22 refrigerant to the ozone friendly HFC-410A refrigerant. The change helped the condominium to earn the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification. INSET: Heights of Buildings Act.
