ABSTRACT
The article reports on the criticisms over the acquisition of the Internet Security Systems (ISS) by International Business Machines Corp. (IBM) in the U.S. According to John Pescatore, Gartner security analyst, it does not make sense for IBM to own network-security product and he thinks that the company should take it slow. Inspite of such critiques, IBM still pursues its plan of buying the Web-application security vendor WatchFire. The company announces that it plans of spending $1.5 billion on security in 2008 and several new products and services for data security and compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.
