ABSTRACT
This article reports on Miramax Films' marketing of the motion picture, The Cider House Rules as of February 2005. With no clear-cut favorite for best picture in the Oscar Awards nominations, Miramax has been most aggressive in marketing Cider House. Miramax has spent $15 million so far on the film to position the film as a nominee under the best picture category as well as other categories. Entertainment marketing consultant Peter Graves said that the film appears to be now sold more on the strategy that it is a critically important film rather than the particulars of its story. Since its release in mid-December, Cider House has only pulled in $20 million in box-office receipts. Miramax's marketing strategy appears to be building interest in the film as its box office revenues increased for the weekend February 4-6.
