The article reports on the effort of French tire company Michelin, to get back on track after its chief executive Edouard Michelin died in a boating accident. The company has launched it new Energy Saver tire in both the European Union and the U.S. The company's strengths are its brand and its technology. Michelin spends 3.6 percent of sales on research and development, compared with 3 percent at Bridgestone and 1.8 percent at Goodyear, and has, over the decades, invented everything from steel-belted radials to regenerating tires.
