ABSTRACT
The article highlights key events in the military history that occurred on December 25. On Christmas Day 1868, U.S. President Andrew Johnson granted final unconditional amnesty to all members of the Confederacy. In 1899, British soldiers fighting the Second Boer War each received a tin of holiday chocolates from their Queen. For Christmas 1914, 17-year-old Princess Mary sent the troops an eminently more practical tin of smokes, paid for through a popular public fund-raiser.
