ABSTRACT
The article discusses the workshops, vigils and special events conducted by the Sisters in Spirit (SIS), launched in March 2004 by the Native Women's Association of Canada, to educate the public about the high rates of violence against Aboriginal women in Canada. The events served as a forum in protecting Aboriginal women. The first SIS vigil was held in 2006 on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. The SIS also conducted community engagement and youth focused workshops that are geared to end racialized and sexualized violence against Aboriginal women.
