ABSTRACT
The article discusses best practices for security projects related to local area networks (LAN). The author comments on LAN security issues such as complying with regulations on network access control (NAC), limiting access to information based on company rank, and overseeing NAC for contractors. He suggests information technology (IT) personnel should consult with business departments to determine requirements. Deploying LAN security measures should include user authentication through passwords, defining access policies, and granting access only when required. Establishing an NAC program may also include a cleaning of directories to ensure correct user information through an identity and access management (IAM) project.
