ABSTRACT
The article discusses increases in shipments of Wi-Fi mesh networking equipment. The research firm In-Stat reports that shipments of Wi-Fi mesh equipment doubled in 2006 and will continue to grow through 2011. Daryl Schoolar, an analyst at In-Stat, suggests municipal deployment of mesh networks will slow after 2008 over worries regarding the business model and that local governments may run applications on the systems. He suggests that shipment slowdowns will be balanced by the replacement of older systems. In-Stat also suggests that as unit costs drop, shipment growth will rise beyond revenue growth.
