ABSTRACT
The article presents a research on spinal ischemia. Three rats paralyzed returned to near normal ambulatory function six weeks after having received human spinal stem cells (hSSC) developed by Neuralstem Inc. In a two-month study of 16 rats with induced spinal-cord ischemia, 9 were injected with hSSCs 21 days after paralysis, seven additional rats received a medium containing no stem cells as the control group.

Background: Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) improve myocardial recovery after ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. These effects are mediated in part by the paracrine secretion of angiogenic and tissue growth-promoting factors. Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) is expressed by MSC and...

Background: Pneumoperitoneum (Pp) induces an ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury as a result of released oxidative stress markers. Ischemic preconditioning (I-PC) induced by brief episodes of ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) protects the heart against sustained I/R. The decrease of the oxygen supply at an ischemia results in the increase of generated cytotoxic superoxide anion- radical and other active forms of oxygen. Free radical processes result in irreversible injuries and death of ischemic cells. Therefore administration of the substances with...
