ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the factors that influenced the artist Joachim Blank's fascination for Javanese batik. Blank said he was amazed with the batik patterns of the different regions on Java. He was also surprised by the colors which are integrated into the system of cultic ritual. Blank stressed that the range of colors has always had its strong influence on his batik work.
