ABSTRACT
The article reports on the development of a web-based tool to aid gardeners and land managers in choosing native plants as weed replacement by the Cooperative Research Center for Weed Management Systems (Weeds CRC) in Australia. The replacement plants include camphor and lantana, which are fleshy fruits that serve as native birds' food source. Weeds have been found to greatly modify bird habitat, as they contribute to the changes in fire regimes, vegetation structure, and seasonal food availability, despite being a ready food source for some bird species. The tool is aimed at native plant trait databases for New South Wales, South Africa, Tasmania, Victoria, and south-western Washington.
