ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the armament air-sol modulaire (Aasm) weapon from Sagem of France. The Aasm is equipped with an imaging infrared seeker and global positioning system (GPS). The accuracy of the Aasm is dependant on the GPS coordinates supplied into the weapon. Sagem explains that metric precision is difficult to attain if target data are provided only by forward observers or drones. The additional imaging infrared sensor which cuts in during the final seconds before hitting the target allows the missile to adjust its aim for accuracy.
