ABSTRACT
The article reports on the introduction of Rimmel London, a European mass-market makeup line from Coty, Inc., to the U.S. market as of January 2000. The brand will appear exclusively at Wal-Mart stores starting in March. It includes a full line of cosmetics, nail color and makeup brushes, all priced from $1.97 to $3.97 each. The launch will be supported by a campaign from J. Walter Thompson Co. and promotions that include sampling and in-store events. According to Rick Goldberg, vice president-color cosmetics at Coty U.S., the effort will concentrate on print, but TV and outdoor are being considered and a Rimmel Web site is under development. Optimum Media, Coty's media agency, has not yet finalized a media plan, but advertisements are expected to break in the second half of the year.
