The article focuses on the efforts of architect Sardjono Sani and his wife Ratna S. Handojo to develop, design and own a small hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. Although concerned whether the market was ready for their version of the boutique lifestyle, their newly built property, called Kemang Icon, received wide market acceptance. The mixed-use spaces converge behind a modern, glass facade that fits the feel of its urban neighborhood.
