ABSTRACT
The article offers information on epitaphs in Great Britain. It is stated that British tombstone text is often a delight to read, but some 25,000 gravestones are lost each year and with them their particular history. The National Archive of Memorial Inscriptions (NAOMI) and the "BBC History Magazine," have launched a project to encourage people to submit historical epitaphs for recording and preservation. One of the author's favorite epitaphs is on a gravestone in the churchyard of Berkeley.
