ABSTRACT
The article reports on the increasing consolidation activity in the chemical industry. According to New York-based investment bank Young & Partners, the global chemical industry has completed $15billion in consolidation deals during the first half of 2007. Saudi Arabia's SABIC has acquired U.S.-based GE Plastics, Netherlands-based Basell NV is buying Lyondell Chemical Co. in the U.S., and U.S.-based PPG Industries Inc. is buying Dutch coatings firm SigmaKalon.
