ABSTRACT
The article explores the controversies surrounding the Philippine Insurrection or the Philippine-American War. The war was controversial from its inception. Western historians agree it was a clear-cut American victory, but still disagree sharply on why and how the U.S. fought the war. Some historians believe that the U.S. intended to grab Philippine territory, fueled by racism and imperialism, but others believe it was a benevolent and successful exercise in nation-building.
