ABSTRACT
The article presents the lessons learned by Francis Ford Coppola, director of the films "Youth Without Youth" and "The Godfather," from filmmaking in the U.S. Coppola stated that a motion picture theme is something that a director can put into one to three words. He averred that in every decision he makes, he goes back to how the theme affects the visual style of the movie. Coppola cited his technique of correlating themes with the props in his movie "The Conversation."
