ABSTRACT
The article reports on the closure of the Ribadeo Casa de Cambio, a currency exchange house in Mexico, due to the murder of its president. According to the documents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Justice Department, drug traffickers used Ribadeo to launder $300 million through U.S. banks between 2002 and 2006. The cocaine trade has benefited from Ribadeo, because it had an account at the Union Bank of California, the nation's 27th-largest bank and the main unit of the Japanese-controlled holding company Unionbancal.
