ABSTRACT
This article deals with the temporary overland by-pass pipeline installed by Wessex Water to maintain services as part of a project to replace a major water main serving large areas of Somerset, England. One of the machines being used for the pipeline construction work is a TracStar 900 butt fusion rig that has been hired from specialist equipment company, Electro Services of Bedford. According to Andy Turner, site agent for Wessex Water, one of the main reasons they went for the TracStar in the first place was its site mobility.
