ABSTRACT
In this study, the concept of readability and the critics on readability concept were investigated. Readability of a text means that passages may be easy or difficult to read and understand. The critics on readability formulas can be listed as follows: They are over rely on quantitative data, they disregard the factor caused by the reader, there is a debate on these formulas, they cannot be applied on all kinds of texts, they exclude the visual factors included in texts, readability formulas may give different results for the different parts of a textbook, different readability formulas may give different results for the same textbook, they may disrupt the general flow of a text, and they are not universal.
