This article reports that aluminum drill pipe can extend the capacity for longer and deeper wells when using a standard rig. Aluminum pipe is corrosion resistant and has low specific weight with high strength. Strength must be as high as possible for most applications to withstand the pipe's own weight plus operational loads. One of the most widely used lightweight construction materials, aluminum alloy, is well known in automotive, aerospace, marine, and civil construction industries. However, the use of aluminum alloy in the petroleum industry is rare.
