ABSTRACT
The article reports that Senator Barack Obama and Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Tom Harkin had sent a letter to President George W. Bush about the U.S. Department of Agriculture stance on black farmers. Obama criticized USDA employees who had lobbied against a provision in the House's farm bill that will reopen discrimination claims by black farmers. The letter refers to the Pigford settlement provision which the black farmers won against USDA in 1999 for discrimination damages.
