ABSTRACT
This article reports on the decision by the board of directors of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in California in December 2002 to suspend development of a museum renovation and expansion by Rem Koolhaas. The museum will pursue less costly options. Voters had rejected a bond referendum that would have provided a fund for the museum, but private donors had expressed confidence that the shortfall could be made up.
