ABSTRACT
This article discusses the communications industry, Unified Communications (UC) and Converged Communications (CC), and how breaking the illusion of separate markets could propel a convergence of the architectures. The author contends that the UC market is driven by workforce productivity, realized through advancements in both horizontal and vertical communication. The CC market is said to be driven by personal time savings, convenience, social networking, family, and entertainment. The author suggests that taking advantage of the benefits associated with converged multimedia services requires an updated business model, pricing plan, technology, and viewpoint. INSET: Young Users Demand Anywhere, Anytime Access.
