ABSTRACT
The article reports on advertising activities ranked by SPINdex as having top media coverage in the U.S. in 1999. Gun-related advertising ranked as the top marketing story of 1999. The sample of influential media outlets showed 414 print and electronic media stories devoted to gun marketing in May/June 1999. Coca-Colas's product recall was the second biggest marketing story. Baseball, meanwhile, got on third place. The resurgence of baseball contributed to the trend. Super Bowl advertising and 1999 holiday-season retail marketing rounded out the top five of 1999.
