ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the plan of Hachette Filipacchi Magazines Inc. to launch a series of five supplements to focus on travel and the Internet, in an attempt to expand the 15-year-old U.S. franchise of the magazine, Elle. The fashion monthly magazine will publish Internet buying guide eElle twice and the travel supplements three times. The plan grew out of November 1999's special edition, Elle's Ultimate Road Trips, distributed to 650,000 subscribers and approximately 125,000 newsstand buyers in Boston, Los Angeles and New York. In 2000, that supplement will be named Elle Ultimate Travel and be distributed to 685,000 subscribers with the November 1999 Elle issue. The second travel guide, Elle Ultimate City Guide, will appear with the April 2000 issue and again in the fall.
