ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the decision of SBC Communications Inc. to move its Ameritech Corp. media-buying account from Carat ICG in Chicago, Illinois to GSD&M in Austin, Texas without a review. Ameritech creative is handled by Lowe Lintas & Partners Worldwide in Chicago. The move comes in the midst of SBC's search for several key marketing executives. The telephone company giant slashed its marketing and advertising departments in late 1999, laying off hundreds. SBC now is trying to fill those positions, albeit with different titles. SBC is already in the middle of a closed review for its new long-distance subsidiary, SBC Telecom Inc. The telecommunications marketer is also considering a third review of outside agencies for the combined direct marketing account of SBC and Ameritech.
