ABSTRACT
The article discusses the importance of platform-independent software on the ZigBee networks in the U.S. According to the author, the ZigBee networks and devices need to become platform-independent since it enables the devices to achieve true interoperability and vendor independence by adopting a layered architecture model where each layer performs a specific set of services. In addition the ZigBee networking as a software-intensive requires networking experts and focus on optimizing the myriad options in the ZigBee protocol.
