The article focuses on the importance of cost of the total security system infrastructure when evaluating infrastructure choices. It is noted that a well-designed optical cabling infrastructure reduces lifecycle cost by providing the greatest degree of flexibility. However, the component cost is not a best measure of total value when doing a comparison of alternatives to optical fiber.
