He says that he uses the stick and carrot approach to deal with labors. He offers small financial incentives at shop-floor level so that workers with no accidents or recorded incidents are rewarded. He also acknowledges that Akzo Nobel has no problem meeting evironmental controls being imposed by regional authorities.
